Finland’s ambassador to India, Kimmo Lähdevirta, met Gujarat chief minister Bhupendra Patel on Tuesday in Gandhinagar to explore mutual cooperation in key sectors including education, skilling, renewable energy, and sustainability, according to a state government release.
During the meeting, cm Patel expressed keen interest in learning about Finland’s globally recognised school system and its high ranking on the Happiness Index. He highlighted Gujarat’s leadership in education and start-ups and said collaboration with Finland could help state-based ventures scale up by leveraging Finnish expertise.
Ambassador Lähdevirta praised Gujarat’s growing ecosystem in renewable energy, infrastructure, and green transition. He noted that about 10 Finnish companies are already operating in the state and that more are showing interest in investing.
The ambassador also inaugurated the Honorary Consulate of Finland in Ahmedabad on Monday and appointed Gujarat-based businessman Kulin Lalbhai as the Honorary Consul. He said the new consulate would strengthen ties between Finland and Gujarat by supporting industries and facilitating business connections.
The meeting underlined growing opportunities for collaboration between Finland and Gujarat in areas of shared interest.
