Haryana: Government to set up research chairs on prominent personalities

Haryana government will frame a new policy for setting up of research chairs in the memory of prominent personalities in various universities of the state.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of Higher Education Department chaired by chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on June 24.

According to the new policy, big industrial and corporate houses or other institutions, which intend to get a chair instituted in any university of the state in the name of any prominent personality would have to pay a specified amount to be fixed by the state government.

The chief minister said these research chairs would prove beneficial only when extensive research is carried out on the themes decided by the respective institutions.

In the meeting, Khattar also approved a Sanskrit University to be named after Maharshi Valmiki in Mundri village of Kaithal district and new government colleges in Sonipat, Shahzadpur in Ambala district, Uklana and Ugalan in Hisar district and Alewa village in Jind district of the state.

It was also decided in the meeting to get all the colleges of Rewari district affiliated to Indira Gandhi University, Meerpur, Rewari.

He also directed that possibilities be explored for setting up a Martial Arts college in the state with training facilities for all combative sports such as Judo, Taekwondo, Martial Art, Karate, Kick Boxing and fencing.

“There are very few colleges of martial arts around the world and we want that such college be set up in Haryana,” Khattar said.

The chief minister also approved a proposal to run evening law classes in existing buildings of government college Kosli in Jhajjar district and government college, Tigaon in Faridabad district.

He also accorded his approval for starting Master of Arts classes in government college, Tigaon. Besides, he directed carrying out of a feasibility study for setting up new government colleges at Nilokheri in Karnal district and Ismailabad in Kurukshetra district.

The chief minister said special emphasis is being given on promotion of Sanskrit. On this, he was apprised that a Sanskrit University named after Maharishi Valmiki would be set up in Mundri village of Kaithal district.

Besides this, a law university in the name of Bhim Rao Ambedkar is being set up at Rajiv Gandhi Education City, Kundli in Sonipat district and work has already been allotted for the same, he said.

The chief minister also directed that self-finance educational institutions be promoted in the state. It was informed that 24 such institutions were opened in the state during the year 2015-16.
