The Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority has introduced a mobile app designed to assist schools in creating their School Disaster Management Plans (SDMP). Incentive programs, including competitions, have been established to encourage schools to excel in SDMP preparation. The ‘School Safety’ app is accessible on both Android and iOS platforms.
To motivate schools to participate and excel in SDMP development, the top-performing school will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 1 Lakh. The next three best entries will receive Rs 50,000 each, and the following six best entries will be granted Rs 30,000 each. Prizes will be awarded on October 12 to SDMPs completed by September 30, 2023.
A mock disaster drill will be conducted on October 13 at the school level, focusing on scenarios like landslides, flash floods, fires, and earthquakes.
In addition, the Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (HPSDMA) plans to observe the International Day of Disaster Risk Reduction through its “Samarth” program, which emphasizes skill development and job placement. The 13th edition of Samarth will take place from October 1 to 15 and will include exhibitions, workshops at the state level, as well as street plays, memory walks, and various competitions at the district level.
Furthermore, a ‘gram sabha’ will be held on October 2 to address monsoon-related disasters and promote safe construction practices that are resilient to hazards like landslides, earthquakes, and fires.
