Hindustan Institute of Engineering Technology (HIET), Chennai was promoted by the Hindustan Engineering Training Centre Educational Society (registered under the Societies Act, XXI of 1860) in 1986 to churn out skilled technicians. Its diploma courses offered by its Polytechnic division (etsb.1979) in Automobile, Computer, Mechanical, Civil and Electronics & Electrical Engineering, are approved by the Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Tamil Nadu and the New Delhi-based All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The courses offered under its Aviation division are approved by the Director General of Civil Aviation, Government of India. HIET has its own training and placement cell. Some of the top companies recruiting from HIET Polytechnic are Ashok Leyland, HCL Technologies, Delphi-TVS, Visteon India Ltd, and Maruti Services. Big names like Air India, Indian Airlines recruit aviation engineers from HIET.
For admission to HIET Polytechnic, candidates should have passed secondary school leaving certificate examination (class 10) or an equivalent examination approved by Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Tamil Nadu. Candidates seeking admission to courses offered by HIET Aviation division should have passed higher secondary (10+2) examination with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as their subject from a recognized board/university or equivalent. They also need to have a medical fitness certificate issued by a competent doctor. Fees: For information on fees for courses offered by HIET Polytechnic, please contact the institute office. Fees for Aircraft Maintenance Engineering course (Mechanical) ranges from Rs.1,00,000 to Rs.1,30,000 annually. For avionics, it ranges from Rs.80, 000 to Rs.1,05,000 annually.
