April 30, 2016

The Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIMB) recently hosted an Open House to announce the launch of General Management Programme for Healthcare Executives. On the occasion, IIMB also announced its partnership with Apollo Medskills to deliver the programme.
The Open House, hosted by the Executive Education Programmes (EEP) office at IIMB, drew a large number of interested people from the healthcare sector.

In his welcome address, Madan Mohan Raj, chief programmes officer, Executive Education, said that IIM Bangalore, ranked as the No. 1 Management School in the India Rankings 2016 by the National Institutional Ranking Framework, had entered into valuable partnerships with organisations and schools of repute to offer sectoral programmes for top executives.

“In 2014, IIMB signed an agreement with Toulouse Business School in France to offer a programme for aerospace and aviation management executives, which has met with good response. Focusing on the healthcare sector now, IIMB is gearing up to bring a General Management Programme for Healthcare Executives, for which we have joined hands with Apollo Medskills,” he said.

Dr. P. Srinivasa Rao, chief operations officer, Apollo Medskills, said, “Healthcare is going through huge innovation and expansion. So the healthcare management programme, from IIM Bangalore and Apollo Medskills, will cover diverse aspects of operations management, finance, marketing and strategy.”

The programme structure was outlined by Professor Shankar Venkatagiri, faculty member, Decision Sciences and Information Systems area, IIMB. He said the GMHE would be a broad-based programme, in keeping with the fact that a coordinated structure was needed in healthcare, between hospital administrators, doctors, aspirants of higher management roles, people who want to set up clinics, professionals from pharmaceuticals, insurance and others, entrepreneurs, etc.

“There will be an in-class and distributed option, with the help of internet, although classroom participation will be encouraged,” Prof. Venkatagiri added.

The programme will involve field trips at the end of 3 modules. The modules will cover various domains of core functional knowledge and the pedagogy will include case studies, talks by specialists and successful entrepreneurs, etc. Technological advancements in healthcare and design of healthcare organisations will also find special mention, and of course, examinations will be a part of the programme.

Faculty from IIMB including Rajluxmi V Murthy, from the Decision Sciences and Information Systems area, and Dr A N Venkatesh, senior consultant and HOD, Emergency, Apollo Hospitals, Bangalore, handled the Q&A session at the Open House.
