In an effort to enhance Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education in Assam, IIT-Guwahati conducted a six-day residential training program for 1,000 teachers from government and provincialized schools. The training, organized under the Education Department’s Samagra Shiksha Assam (SSA) initiative, aimed to reform teaching methods and introduce high-quality STEM education at the school level.
The teachers received instruction in various subjects, including Physics, Electronics, Coding, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, and Materials Science. Additionally, they were equipped with skills to teach students and manage tinkering labs in the state. The training program concluded with a valedictory ceremony, during which the state Education Minister, Ranoj Pegu, expressed confidence that the improved teaching techniques would inspire students to pursue Science and Mathematics in higher education.
Minister Pegu also extended gratitude to IIT-Guwahati for its support in various teacher training projects and tinkering labs. On the occasion, the state government’s project, Mind in Training for Right Awareness (MITRA), was launched. The residential training program included teachers from 13 districts, and there are plans to extend similar training to science and engineering colleges, polytechnics, and talent nurturing programs for higher secondary students like ‘Arohan’ and ‘Vigyan Pratibha Sandhan.’
