In the EW India School Rankings 2013, Dhirubhai Ambani International School, Mumbai is ranked the countrys #1 day school, Indus International, Bangalore the premier day-cum-boarding school, and Kodaikanal International the numero uno wholly residential school. Summiya Yasmeen reports
Although international schools affiliated with foreign boards such as the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges, USA and Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), UK (e.g Woodstock, Mussoorie (estb. 1852); Kodaikanal International (estb.1901) and Hebron School, Ooty (estb.1899)) have been providing internationally benchmarked education to a small minority of students in India for over a century, a new crop of international schools distinguished by sprawling campuses, ICT-enabled infrastructure, 5-star residential facilities and affiliation with the Geneva-based International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) and a rejuvenated CIE, has flowered in India following the historic liberalisation and deregulation of the Indian economy in 1991.
Since 2008, weve rated and ranked international schools offering the syllabuses and curriculums of foreign examination boards such as IBO, Geneva; CIE and Edexcel, UK separately and distinctively from day and boarding schools affiliated with national exam boards such as CBSE and CISCE. This year following feedback from principals and parents, the broad category of international schools has been divided into three sub-categories — day, day-cum-boarding and wholly residential international schools.
In the EducationWorld India School Rankings 2013,  Dhirubhai Ambani International School, Mumbai is ranked the countrys #1 day school, Indus International, Bangalore the premier day-cum-boarding school, and Kodaikanal International School the numero uno wholly residential school.
Detailed national and state rankings in the three categories are presented in the pages following. Also check out the sub-categories-neutral rating and ranking scores of Indias Top 10 international schools under each of the 14 parameters of primary-secondary education excellence.
