EducationWorld August 2022 | Spotlight Feature

Continuous innovation to ensure the spark of creativity and creation within our students is our success mantra. At Sat Paul Mittal School, we have been demonstrating extraordinary capacity to break away from rote-learning, and adopt pedagogies which encourage development of students’ creative thinking, collaborative and problem-solving skills. Following are some initiatives:

Teacher-Student Connect Programme – As we begin meeting students in the new academic year, it is important to connect and communicate. When children feel their teachers care for them and want them to succeed, they work harder, pay better attention, and persist through challenges. The Student-Teacher Connect Programme is a three-day programme wherein students connect with their class and subject teachers while having fun with their peers at the start of the academic year.

The Satyan Entrepreneurship Program: The Satyan Entrepreneurship Program boasts an exhaustive integrated program which aims to develop creative capacity, entrepreneurial confidence and help Satyans to acquire necessary skills to build scalable start-ups that solve real world problems. Students develop a perceptive, sensitive and critical response to the role of business in a local (school) context through market research, branding, school canteens and start-ups.

Career and College Readiness Program: We believe that helping students find his/her right fit college and course makes the learning journey purposeful and worthy. Towards this end, we have curated a Career and College Readiness Program (CCRP) especially for class XI-XII students. The College and Career Readiness Program at Sat Paul Mittal School is designed to provide college-specific knowledge and also help students make informed decisions with regard to course /college in collaboration with the college admissions team and through faculty skill development workshops.

Vocational Programme: The school initiated vocational education for classes VI-XII which lays emphasis on expe[1]riential learning along with a focus on 21st-century skills like critical thinking, problem-solving, etc. The idea is to shift education away from books into the realm of learning through exploring and experiencing.

The Satyan Internship Programme- The Satyan Internship Programme is an immersive, multi-disciplinary, pedagogical internship programme for classes IX-XII students. The programme aims to infuse curiosity and cultivate creative thought processes among young Satyans to equip them with real-time experiences of the practical world. Summer 2022 brought a plethora of opportunities to learn and discover new skills and enhance existing skill-sets of Satyans. Students of classes IX-XII have undergone a 15- day internship programme during the summer vacations.

Student-led Clubs: Student-led clubs provide Satyans a platform to showcase their skill-sets by acting as mentors under the guidance of school facilitators and help them carve a niche for themselves and their team. Student-led clubs provide Satyans vast opportunities to explore and assimilate creativity, collaboration and problem-solving skills in an immersive environment to fast-track learning experiences. With leadership, teamwork, collaboration, commu[1]nication and learning as the key goals, student-led clubs nurture responsible and empowered leaders of tomorrow.

Alumni Mentorship Program: School alumni undertake training sessions for classes XI-XII students to help them make a smooth transition from high school to college. The Alumni Mentorship Program also helps in soft skills development and enables students to think rationally. The Annual Alumni Meet helps students (XI and XII) connect in person with alumni, discuss, deliberate and understand their journey, their challenges and milestones achieved and future career goals and plans.

Satyan Innovation Fest: In an endeavour to inspire young people to be innovative change makers and embrace their creativity, Sat Paul Mittal School‘s annual feature — The Satyan Innovation Fest — brings the two wings of the bird of imagination together – The Start-up Edge and The Satyan Gamification Challenge.

Satyan Atamnirbhar Fest: Parent Engagement Programmes have always been an integral part of our school for promoting a healthy and effective communion and close interaction between our parents and school. Keeping this in mind, a four-day Vocational and Skill Fest – The Atmanirbhar Fest — was organised for classes II-V students wherein they were taught public speaking, social etiquettes, healthy eating, Vedic Maths, positive thinking and time management.

The Start-Up Superstar-Billionaire Fairy Club: Aimed to nurture the unique skills, talents, interests of future entrepreneurs while providing formative training which can pay dividends later in life, Sat Paul Mittal School as a part of SUPW launched an ambitious project for class V students — The Start-up Superstars. The Billionaire Fairy Club is its extended arm. As a part of the club, entrepreneurs of Ludhiana city are invited to mentor the youngsters and share valuable insights on pitching ideas, negotiating, mak[1]ing decisions, leadership, customer service and creative thinking.

Learning through STEAM – The school routinely engages students into Robotics under the supervision of experts who guide them with age-appropriate activities. The students also get an opportunity to learn various concepts of Mathematics, Physics, General science and art through hands-on activities.

Awareness Drive on Detox Ludhiana: Detox Ludhiana is an ambitious project of the school to empower Satyans to help restore our planet to a clean, healthy state which our ancestors enjoyed, and our grandchildren are entitled to as well.

Following are some parameters taken:

#Detox Plastic — Sans Plastic, Avec Life: Eco warriors of classes III-V endorse and support the #DetoxMyCity drive by taking active part in our Sans Plastic, Avec Life – Plastic Purge Project.

#Detox Land — The Plant Buddy project: The Satyans bring home a ‘plant buddy’, name them and pledge to be its responsible guardians by assuming full responsibility of its growth and nourishment for five years.

Pledge a Bowl: To act in a sensitive manner towards the community of animals /birds, children are asked to feed them through “Pledge a Bowl Campaign” by placing a bowl outside their homes to feed strays food or water.

Save Soil Campaign: Sat Paul Mittal School collaborated with Sadhguru’s Isha Foundation to spread awareness about dire consequences of soil erosion and depletion and measures that can save soil. By coming up with unique programmes and opportunities, we are introducing our students to an entirely new way of thinking, and offering them ways to apply this new mindset to various situations. Most importantly, we are not just pre[1]paring children to acquire degrees and jobs but equipping them with skillsets that will ensure their success in any field they choose. We are equipping them for life.
