Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), Mumbai University was founded in 1933 with an aim to advance India’s knowledge reserves in chemical science and technology. The institute, which was formerly known as University Department of Chemical Technology (UDCT), became a deemed university in 2008 under Section 3 of the UGC Act. The courses offered by ICT are accredited by NBA. It focuses on training and research in various branches of chemical engineering, chemical technology and pharmacy. Faculty student ratio of this institute is 1:24.

ICT’s Biotechnology programme was ranked No.1 among all Biotechnology programmes in the country by Biospectrum magazine in 2010 and 2011.
It is ranked as the best chemical engineering and chemical technology teaching and research institute in India and stands at No. 4 globally in an annual ranking of chemical engineering programs conducted by the Georgia Institute of Technology, USA in January, 2012.
The institute’s 16-acre wi-fi enabled campus hosts contemporary infrastructure including Smart classrooms, research labs equipped with the latest equipment and safety devices, a central library with a rich collection of books on diverse genres, canteen facility, auditorium, student activity centre, turf, multipurpose court, badminton court and a main ground.
In 2018, the foundation stone of a second campus in Marathwada was laid in the presence of the then chief minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis for which 203 acres has been allocated at Siraswadi near Jalna.
ICT Mumbai offers B.Pharm, M.Pharm, M.Sc, B.E./B.Tech, M.E./M.Tech and PG Diploma courses in chemical technology and allied disciplines.

Based on its excellent performance over the years, the Government of Maharashtra granted ICT Mumbai ‘Centre of Excellence’ status in the state assembly on April 20, 2012.
In November 2017, the institute was accredited with A++ Grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
In the BRICS QS Universities Ranking 2018, ICT ranked #118 while in 2019, it ranked #115.
