Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Samastipur, Bihar is a coeducational residential government school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi. With a student strength of 536 children, JNV Samastipur is run by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, New Delhi, an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Education, Government of India. JVN Samastipur was established in 1986.

JNVs are alternate schools for talented children in rural areas of India which aim at providing the children the best residential school system irrespective of their socio-economic background. There are approximately 595 JNVs across India offering education from class VI to XII.

Campus

The 38 acre school campus hosts a well stocked library, 12 spacious classrooms, a physics lab, chemistry lab, biology lab, biotechnology lab, computer lab, math lab, geography lab, resource room, music room and staff common room. The school also houses an infirmary, guest house, workshop and dining hall. The sports infrastructure includes facilities such as gymnasium, two playgrounds – one each for junior and senior sections, courts for kho-kho, kabaddi, basketball, volleyball, handball and badminton.

Academics

Affiliated with CBSE, JNV Samastipur offers classes from VI to XII. At the senior secondary level, the school offers science and arts streams with bio-technology and computer science specialisations in the science stream. The school also offers a wide range of extracurricular and sports activities to nurture a balanced growth among students that helps develop physical, mental, creative and emotional aspects of their personality.

Admission

Admission in JNVs is made through the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) at Class VI. The medium of instruction in JNVs is the mother tongue or regional language up to class VIII and English thereafter for math, science and Hindi for social science. Students of the JNVs appear for class X and XII examinations of the CBSE.

JNVST is of nonverbal nature, class neutral and designed to ensure that talented children from the rural areas are able to compete without facing any disadvantages and also to ensure that children from far flung rural areas get admission forms free of cost without any problem.

All the children who have passed class V from any recognised school and are between nine to 13 years of age are eligible to write JNVST for admission in class VI. As per the scheme, a maximum of 80 students can be admitted in Class VI.

Fees: 600/- per month for boys under general category only (except BPL)
1500/- per month for wards of Government employees for boys under general category only (except BPL)
