Overview

Promoted in 2020 by renowned educationist Pinky Dalal and her son Kunal Dalal, JBCN International School, Chembur is a part of the Mumbai-based JBCN Education group which has promoted three other co-ed day K-12 schools in Borivali, Oshiwara and Parel.

A candidate school for the IB Primary Years Program (PYP), the school aims to nurture inquiring young minds through unique and stimulating teaching approaches that incorporate the best of national and international curricula. The school offers a learning experience that remains firmly rooted in Indian values as well as enables students to become capable leaders and effective communicators who can adapt effortlessly to a culturally diverse and ever-changing world.

Campus

The 0.7 acre school campus hosts a contemporary academic infrastructure that includes 16 spacious temperature-controlled Smart classrooms and 4 well-equipped labs (Physics, Chemistry & Biology, ICT, STEM) to enable hands-on learning.

Driven by the belief that positive, productive learning environments are key to learners’ academic, emotional and social success in school, the school hosts specially designed ‘learning zones’ that provide the learners an opportunity for risk-taking, exploration and self-expression while ensuring round-the-clock safety. A well-stocked and thoughtfully designed learner resource centre encourages young learners to be proactive and access a wide range of resources for their learning requirements with ease. A centre of new technology, JBCN labs play a key role in delivering an academic curriculum that is effective, cognitive and practical.

The astro turf, swimming pool and performing arts centre allows the learners to engage in a plethora of sports and co-curricular activities under the guidance of professional trainers and coaches. The school also has facilities for sports like athletics, gymnastics, chess, skating, cricket, football and basketball.

The school presently offers the following curriculum for various classes/grades:

Grade 1 to 5 – Candidate school for IB Primary Years Program (PYP).

The Early Years follows a spirally advancing curriculum model that incorporates best practices from internationally acclaimed pedagogies such as Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and Steiner, leaning heavily towards inquiry-based learning practices of the PYP.

Co-curricular education

The school’s iPROPEL programme encompasses several progressive, skill-based programmes wherein the learning takes place by design and not by default. Broadly classified across performing arts, research and reasoning, outreach, physical fitness, experiential learning and leadership skills, every component of the programme is age-appropriate and designed to further augment the curriculum.

The various components of iPROPEL for the different classes/grades are:

Secondary section – Physical Education (Sports), Speech and Drama, Visual Arts, Music, Dance, Coding & Robotics, Online Math Programme, Global Social Leaders, Clap Talks, Film Making, Creative Writing and Graphic Designing.

Skills acquired through iPROPEL are showcased through various culmination events such as InspirUs, Art Fest, Innovators Convention, Model United Nations, Annual Athletic Meet, among others.

The school also encourages learners to contribute positively to society by engaging in socially relevant initiatives of NGOs and social service initiatives launched in the neighbourhood by local community networks.

The school’s Sports Education Programme aims to create a sports culture that encourages fitness, a healthy lifestyle, teamwork and the spirit of sportsmanship in all walks of life. The programme is designed to provide sportspersons the best of facilities, coaching, resources and support in athletics, gymnastics, chess, skating, cricket, football and basketball, among others.

As a vital part of the Mind Body Soul programme, sports education at JBCN International builds in learners the vital EduCreative attributes of resilience, perseverance, collaboration and equanimity.

Committed to the continuous professional development of its teachers, the school facilitates regular teacher training programmes. Teachers spend 23 days annually upgrading their skills and professional competencies.
