Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara (JSS) University is a deemed university established in 2008 under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956. The university is part of JSS Mahavidyapeetha, which runs a host of educational institutions. Offering courses in medicine and allied sciences, the JSS University comprises the JSS Medical College, Mysore, established in 1984 the JSS Dental College in Mysore, established in 1986, the JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysore, established in 1973 and another College of Pharmacy in Ooty, which was established in 1980.
It is made up of 6 faculties — Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Bio-medical Sciences, Faculty of Life Sciences, and Faculty of Health System Management Studies.
The university aims at nurturing and developing the talents of students and to create applicable knowledge to enable social and economic advancement.
Spread over 46 acres of well landscaped greenery, the wi-fi enabled and plastic-free campus of JSS University houses modern classrooms, well-stocked libraries, study rooms, digital libraries and common rooms. The main canteen serves nutritious and hygienically prepared meals and snacks. With high importance accorded to sports education, the university hosts well-maintained cricket, football and basketball grounds, and an indoor badminton and table tennis court.

All admissions are governed by regulations of Medical Council of India (MCI)/Dental Council of India (DCI)/Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) etc. and directions will be followed from the Supreme Court of India from time to time.
Undergraduate Admissions
MBBS/ BDS
Candidate should have passed PUC II/HSC or ISC or equivalent examination in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English with at least 50 percent marks in the qualifying examinations from a recognised board/university/college after 12 years of study. The candidate must also secure at least 50 percent marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together in the JSSU Entrance Test.
BPharma
Candidate should have passed HSc/PDC/PUC (10+2) with an aggregate of 40 percent in Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology or Biology or Mathematics and English.
DPharma
Candidate should have passed 10+2 examination with Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects along Mathematics or Biology.
DPharma (Post Baccalaureate)
Candidate should have passed BPharma from the recognised university and approved by Pharmacy Council of India, New Delhi.
Postgraduate Admissions
MD/MS/MDS/PG Diploma Courses:
Candidate should have passed MBBS/BDS examinations from the college recognised by Medical Council/Dental Council of India and should have completed internship on or before April 31 in the admission year. The minimum percentage in the entrance test for admission to PG courses is 50 percent for General category candidates and for SC, ST, category-I & OBC the eligibility is 40 percent. Foreign/PIO/ NRI students need not appear for JSSU PGET and their admission is based on qualifying examination marks.
MPharma
Candidate should have passed BPharma from recognised university and secured not less than 50 percent of the maximum marks (aggregate of four years) prescribed for the qualification examination.
DM:
Candidates must hold a recognised MD degree (or its equivalent recognised degree) in the subject of MD General Medicine or MD Pediatrics with permanent registration with Medical Council of India / State Medical Council.
MCh
Candidates must have recognised degree of MS (or its equivalent recognised degree) in the subjects of MS Surgery with permanent registration with Medical Council of India / State Medical Council.

The JSS Medical College boys’ hostel offers accommodation for 500 under-graduates, post-graduates and interns. There is a separate hostel for women with accommodation for nearly 400 students.
The JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysore hostel houses 10 double rooms with attached bathroom and 27 double rooms without attached bathroom. Each double room accommodates two students. The hostel also offers five triple rooms which accommodate three students in a room.
The JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty hostels accommodate 250 students in boys’ hostel and 240 students in girls’ hostel.
The hostel rooms are spacious, comfortable, and well-furnished and equipped with all the modern amenities. The hostels provide nutritious food and 24 hour security system.
