Karnataka private schools tells govt not to force them to buy textbooks

Karnataka: Call for revoking textbook revisions grows stronger

June 10, 2022

Joining the row of people opposing the textbooks revision, the All India Save Education Committee has asked the state government to revoke any changes made to the textbook and retain content as is.

The Karnataka State President of All India Save Education Committee Prof Allamaprabu Bettaduru demanded the state government to immediately take back the re-revised schools textbooks.

The committee has alleged that the demand has been placed because revisions were done by an illegally and illegitimately constituted committee.

In an official statement, they said educationists who attended their Education Convention against distortion of school textbooks held at Bengaluru on June 8.

They have also called upon distorting the historical facts. “The state government is legally and morally duty bound to abide by the law of the land and opinion of people of Karnataka,” the committee has said.

It may be recollected that in Karnataka, several authors and opposition party members have been up in arms against the government over allegations of saffronising textbooks.

Opposition leader Siddaramaiah has threatened that if changes to textbooks are considered, then his party will take to the streets in protest.

“The textbook revision committee was chaired by Rohith Chakrathirtha, who is an orthodox RSS man. I hope the government will consider revising it, if not, we will go to the streets,” he said.
