Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah announced that the case of three optometry students being arrested for allegedly taking objectionable videos of a fellow student has been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
It may be recollected that the incident took place at a college in Karnataka’s Udupi district. Some students were caught taking videos of another student in the restroom.
Following this, former chief minister Basavaraj Bommai demanded that the issue was a serious one and demanded attention from a special investigation team.
However, the issue turned controversial after Siddaramaiah said that he had not found the need for an escalation as a team headed by a deputy SP was already investigating it. Meanwhile, Karnataka’s home minister G Parameshwara had termed it a “small incident” which was “blown out of proportion”.
Siddaramaiah, on Monday said that the issue had to be handed over to CID as the issue had turned to be a sensitive one.
“Udupi secret video recording case has become a sensitive issue and hence we have handed over the case to CID for investigation,” Siddaramaiah said.
