In the wake of the state reporting an unprecedented number of Covid-19 cases, the Karnataka government on Tuesday announced that the board exams for the II PU (Pre-University) have been postponed.
The announcement was made through a press statement released by the office of the minister for primary and secondary education S Suresh Kumar. The second PU board exams are conducted by the Department of Pre-University education in Karnataka.
Second PU exams were scheduled to commence on May 24 and continue upto June 16. However, exams have now been postponed in the wake of the second wave of Covid-19. The official communication also stated that the minister has appealed to all students to continue preparations without getting disheartened and assured that the revised dates will be announced in advance. Karnataka reported over 44,000 cases of Covid 19 on Monday.
Meanwhile, in yet another announcement, the education minister has confirmed that exams for First PU students have been canceled and that they are promoted to higher classes.
However, in order to ensure these students are up to the mark for the next academic year, bridge courses will be held soon after the commencement of the academic year.
Lecturers working in ore university classes have been asked to work from home. However, they have been asked to continuously monitor the learning progress of students. Those on Covid-19 duty will continue to remain in those positions.
Previously, there were representations made by several student bodies and individual parents on social media and to the departments seeking postponement or cancellation of second PU exams to safeguard students from Covid-19.
