There is no possibility of reversing the engineering fee hike of 10 percent, said Karnataka’s higher education minister Dr M C Sudhakar.
He officially released the Karnataka Common Entrance Test results in Bengaluru on Thursday.
Speaking post the release, Sudhakar said that the 10% hike in engineering fee cannot be reverted for the academic year as it has been done as per procedure.
“The decision to hike engineering fee by 10% was taken by the previous BJP government. In February, there was an official order also in this regard. When it was brought to our notice when we came to power, we examined how the same was conducted. As per procedure, the fee hike was done in deliberation with the private colleges. It cannot be reverted now. Any decision to undo the same will result in chaos and cause confusion for students,” he said.
A total of 1.1 lakh seats are available for engineering courses for the current year and out of which 53,248 seats will be allotted under the government quota. He added, 25,171 seats will be available through COMED-K and 33,463 seats will be available under management quota.
NEP
Meanwhile, about the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020 he said that detailed consultations with stakeholders was on and that a decision would be taken soon.
“In the primary and secondary education levels, NEP implementation has not begun yet. Whereas, in higher education, implementation began two years ago. We are gathering information on the aspects which are problematic and that need to be addressed. Whatever be the decision taken, it will be done with students’ interest as our priority,” he added.
