The Karnataka Examinations Authority on Saturday released the revised Common Entrance Test (CET) in a list that was prepared based high court order to use the II PU marks for CET repeaters after a normalisation process. The revised ranklist showed only one change in the first 500 ranks.
As many as 24,000 students who passed II PU in 2021 took up CET in 2022. Basis the court’s direction, 6% marks scored by these II PU students was deducted. Further, 50% of marks obtained in II PU and 50% of marks secured in CET were considered for their ranks.
Authorities at the KEA said that there were 14 repeaters between 501 and 1,000 ranks while 2,063 managed to secured ranks between 1,001 and 10,000. Also, 22,022 repeaters ranked between 10,001 and 1 lakh.
Among the repeater candidates, Tejas Pratap who secured 490 rank stood first. The last rank was at 1,74,351.
Addressing a media briefing, minister for higher education Dr C N Ashwath Narayan said that the state sent a proposal to the All India Council of Technical Education seeking a 10% increase in seats as proposed by the expert committee that had suggested solutions to sort out the confusion.
The Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) said freshers feel the dip because spot rankings have been included and the change is not because of CET repeaters.
“There were around 2,281 spot ranks released for CBSE and ICSE students whose Class 12 marks had not come by the time CET results were announced. Additionally, another 2,000 ranks were added whose PU marks changed after revaluation. So, the drop in ranks students feel is not just because of CET repeaters that have improved. It is the freshers ranks who have come in between,” KEA executive director Ramya S said amid an angst from freshers that they were given ranks unfairly.
“CET repeaters’ ranks are evenly spread. For every 10,000 ranks, there are around 1,500 repeaters. This is so in every rank slot,” she added.
