The state government has announced Y-category security to the judges who pronounced the verdict in the Hijab row case recently.
Chief minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday said that the three judges, chief justice Ritu Raj Awasti, justice Krishna Dixit and justice Khazi M Jaibunisa have been given protection.
This comes after the video of a man issuing threats against the three judges has emerged. The judges, who comprised the full bench of the Karnataka High Court had ruled that Hijab was not essential religious practice as per Islam.
Meanwhile, speaking to the press the chief minister said that top police officers have been asked to carry out the investigation pertaining the complaint that has been lodged at Vidhanasoudha Police Station in this regard.
Bommai also said that standing in favour of only one community does not amount to secularism. He said that he strongly condemned the act.
Several derogatory remarks, condemning the judgement on hijab surfaced on social media, hours after the judgement was delivered. In one such, in Tamil Nadu, members of the Thowheed Jamat have been booked for derogatory remarks against the court. They had openly passed derogatory remarks after the judgement was delivered in a public gathering.
