Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Bangalore was promoted in 1980 by Vokkaligara Sangha, which was founded in 1906 to promote education in rural Mysore. The institute took off in 1981 as a medical college and has its own multi specialty hospital providing tertiary medical care and community health services. KIMS is affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore and recognized by Medical Council of India, New Delhi for imparting training for undergraduate and postgraduate courses in various medical and surgical specialties. KIMS has been consistently ranked amongst the top thirty medical colleges in India by leading education surveys conducted annually.
