Started in 1992, Kulachi Hansraj Manovikas Kendra, New Delhi is a special school promoted by the DAV College Managing Committee under the aegis of Kulachi Hansraj Model School. The school boasts around 300 differently abled children.
The school’s mission is to contribute without political, religious or social prejudice, to the full social recognition of the human rights of children/ persons with disability, especially the right to education.
The school campus hosts a building with hearing wing, and mentally challenged wings for pre-primary and primary sections.
Hearing wing: The wing for the hearing impaired and slow learners offers classes from LKG onwards. These students follow NCERT syllabus with appropriate adaptations and appear for their class X and XII exams through the open school. After qualifying class XII from open school, these students pursue various professional courses such as fashion designing from NIFT etc.
Mentally Challenged Wing (Pre Primary Section): This section includes special children in the age group of four to seven years. Here, emphasis is laid on readiness skills – pre requisite for later learning.
Mentally Challenged Wing (Primary Section): The primary section includes students between the age group of seven to 14 years.Students are provided training in functional academics, domestic skills and community orientation. Extracurricular activities are also an integral part of their curriculum.
The Early Intervention Section: In this section children between the age of three to five years are trained and prepared to have sufficient independent functioning in the area of communication, behavior, cognition and socialisation.
Vocational Wing: The Vocational training unit at Kulachi Hansraj Manovikas Kendra has incorporated different vocations over the years, so as to provide an enriching training to its students. The young adults aged 18-22 yrs are are trained extensively in different vocations such as flower recycling (making herbal holi colors), mop and duster making, candle and rakhi making, paper mache, needle work, file making, cooking, and paper product making.
