Overview

Founded in 2002 by Sudha Narayan, LearningTreeMontessoriSchool follows the Montessori method to help children reach their full potential – intellectually, socially, and emotionally. The preschool aims “to develop within children the qualities of self-confidence, poise, a spirit of sharing, and exemplary social behavior”.

Learning Tree is an inclusive preschool and welcomes children with disabilities. According to the school its nurturing environment has helped children with special needs become an integral part of the school’s community and gain confidence to enroll in mainstream schools.

Campus

Learning Tree has spacious well ventilated classrooms called “environments” in which children have the freedom to move around, choosing their activities from the low shelves lining the rooms. The children use mats on the floor as their work space and are not confined to tables and chairs. The entire range of Montessori materials are displayed within the child’s reach so as to facilitate independent learning. The outdoor environment has play equipment such as slides, seesaws and jungle gyms as well as tyre swings and rope ladders, jungle gym, sand pit, etc

Academics

Learning Tree follows the Montessori philosophy and offers a child-friendly and learner-centric curriculum to its students. The academic year is divided into three terms and the curriculum is planned according to the calendar events in each term to create a synergy between the child’s home and school environment.

According to a school spokesperson, completing three years (from the age 3 ½ years up to 5 ½ years) of prescribed instruction at Learning Tree enables the child to express himself fluently in English, read and write sentences independently, understand quantitative and hierarchical number concepts and basic arithmetic equations and fairly converse in Hindi and Tamil. Children are also exposed to fine arts and performing arts.

Admission

Admissions are open throughout the year however are subject to availability. The child must be between 2 ½ and 5 ½ years of age to fulfil the admission criteria. However in exceptional circumstances, and depending on the development of the child, the age limit may be relaxed by a few months.

Applications can either be downloaded from the school website or can be collected and submitted at the school office between 9 am and 2 pm on weekdays or between 10 am and 12 noon on Saturdays.
