An alumnus of The Doon School, Dehradun, St. Stephen’s College, Delhi and the DAV Garhwal and Annamalai universities, Sumer has rendered more than 40 years service to raising primary-secondary teaching-learning standards in India and abroad. Over the past six years, Daly College (estb.1882) has been consistently ranked among India’s Top 5 legacy boarding schools by EducationWorld. This year it has been ranked a higher No.2 in the new day-cum-boarding schools category.
One of India’s most distinguished school principals/headmasters, Sumer has taught in the top-ranked Lawrence, Sanawar; The Doon School; Gordonstoun, Scotland; United World College of the Atlantic, Wales (UK) and Boxhill, UK. After that he served as principal of Lawrence, Sanawar; The Asian School, Dehradun and Daly College since 2003. Internationalist in his outlook and committed to benchmarking India’s schools with the world’s best, Sumer is an Executive Board Member of the UK-based Round Square, an international association of 62 schools worldwide including the US, Canada, Australia, Peru, Japan, and Thailand. He is also chairman designate of the Indian Public Schools Conference.
An education consultant to corporates including Tata Sons, Sumer has authored several books including Doon — the Story of a School, Unity in Diversity, History of The Daly College and the forthcoming An Aussie in India.
