Literacy tests of Ullas Navbharat Literacy Program commence tommorow

The basic literacy and numeracy assessment test for illiterate persons registered on the Ullas app will be conducted offline across Maharashtra tomorrow Sunday, 23 March 2025. 
 
Brihanmumbai Education Officer (Planning) Dr. Vaishali Veer said that a total of 17,415 illiterate persons including 7,135 females , 10,279 males and one transgender person are scheduled to appear for the test in the Greater Mumbai area.
 
These illiterate persons from the city and suburban districts should be present at the designated examination center between 10 am and 5 pm with their identity cards, she said.
 
The duration of the actual paper is three hours and the examinee can appear at any time during the above period.  30 minutes extra time will be given for the differently abled persons, she said.
 
The exam is part of the Central Government sponsored Ullas Navbharat Literacy Program  being implemented in the state from 2022-23 to 2026-27. The aim is to develop important life skills among the illiterate  by teaching basic literacy (reading, writing) and numeracy to those aged 15 years and above. These skills include financial, legal and digital literacy , disaster management skills , health care, child care, family welfare etc.
 
 The program is being implemented with the help of various departments at the Central and State and Union Territory levels. The scheme was adopted in Maharashtra following a formal decision dated 14th October 2022.
 Subsequently, as per the decision dated 25th January 2023, State, District and School level committees have been formed for the implementation of this program,  according to Director of Education (Scheme) Dr. Mahesh Palkar.
