Founded in 1965, Madurai Kamaraj University is a statutory university funded by the Government of Tamil Nadu and the University Grants Commission (UGC), Government of India. The university boasts 21 academic centres and 21 quasi academic supportive units. It boasts 24 autonomous colleges, 14 aided colleges, 33 self financing colleges, 18 approved institutions, 4 evening colleges, 6 constituent colleges and one university college. The university’s motto is “To Seek Truth is Knowledge".
The wi-fi enabled university campus hosts smart class rooms equipped with ICT enabled teaching and learning and a modern well-stocked central library featuring over 3 lakh books on various disciplines, 9000 e-journals, 3000 e-books, 55000 reference and text books.
The Madurai Kamaraj University offers 41 post-graduate, 35 M.Phil and 17 Diploma/PG diploma/certificate courses under its various departments. Currently, 66 UG and 45 PG courses are offered in the affiliated colleges and more than 163 individual research projects are being carried out. The university boasts 2428 students and research scholars. It also offers UG, PG, PG diploma, and certificates programmes through distance learning.
