Overview

The Manipal College of Dental Sciences (MCODS), a constituent college of Manipal University, was established in 1965 and received accreditation by the Dental Council of India in 1970. It was India’s first private dental college and 14th dental college. It received its ISO 9001:2000 certification recommendation on 29th May 20016 when a certification audit was completed by TÜV Rheinland. MCODS offers degree, certificate and diploma courses in dental sciences. In 1972 it added the MDS (Masters) program to its curriculum.

The very first principal of the college was Dr. Sunder Vazirani, followed by Dr. K.L. Shourie from Mumbai and then Dr. K. S. Bhat. The current dean of the college is Dr. Keerthilatha Pai.

MCODS was ranked second among Indian dental colleges in 2020 by the National Institutional Ranking Framework.

Campus

The MCODS campus is equipped with an innovation centre which nurtures innovation and encourages entrepreneurial talents among students, faculty and people of the region. It facilitates inter-disciplinary research and provides incubation facilities to start ups and budding entrepreneurs. It spans an area of 16,000 sq. ft. and houses state-of-the-art laboratory facilities. Situated near the western ghat peaks, the campus houses spacious classrooms, a well-stocked library and a variety of technical and cultural clubs and extracurricular and sports facilities.

Placements:

Recent placement statistics- 2019 and 2020: The median CTC for B.D.S. students of 2020 batch was recorded at INR 2.8 LPA, which was higher than the 2019 median salary at INR 2.62 LPA. For M.D.S. students, there was a fall in the median CTC of 2020- INR 4.3 LPA as compared to the median CTC in 2019 which stood at INR 8.2 LPA.

Admission

Undergraduate Admissions- B.D.S.

Selection Criteria: NEET UG score/rank.

Eligibility: 10+2 with PCB from a recognised board with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks.

Admission Criteria:

  • Candidates must register for admissions by filling the online application form from the official Manipal University website.
  • Candidates have to apply and appear for the NEET UG exams.
  • After securing a valid rank/score, candidates have to attend the counselling session and choose MCODS during choice filling. Candidates allotted seats may verify their documents and pay the fees to confirm their admission.

Postgraduate Admissions- M.D.S.

Selection Criteria: NEET-MDS score/rank.

Eligibility: M.D.S. from a university recognised by the Dental Council of India.

Admission Criteria:

  • Candidates must register for admissions by filling the online application form from the official Manipal University website.
  • Candidates have to apply and appear for the NEET-MDS exams.
  • After securing a valid rank/score, candidates have to attend the counselling session by the Director General of Health Science (DGHS) and choose MCODS during choice filling. Candidates allotted seats may verify their documents and pay the fees to confirm their admission.

Postgraduate Admissions- PG certificate and diploma courses

Selection Criteria: Academic merit and work experience

Eligibility: B.D.S./M.D.S. from a university recognised by the Dental Council of India.

Admission Criteria:

  • Candidates must register for admissions by filling the online application form from the official Manipal University website.
  • There is no entrance test. Candidates will be selected on the basis of their academic merit, qualifications obtained and professional work experience/internship completion.

B.D.S.- INR 2,640,000/-

M.D.S.- INR 2,595,000 – 5,250,000/-

PG Diploma- INR 2,79,000/-

PG Certificate Courses- INR 1,50,000 – 3,68,000/-

Achievement

MCODS was ranked second among Indian dental colleges in 2020 by the National Institutional Ranking Framework. 

It was also ranked second for Dental by The Week 2019, and fourth for Dental by Outlook 2019.
