Overview

Meerut College was started in 1892. It is a prestigious institution of northern India and caters to the higher education needs of both urban and rural areas. The college has a glorious history of achievements in academics and other fields. Personalities from governors, ambassadors, cabinet ministers, judges, innumerable administrators – IAS, IFS, IRS,advocates, social workers, scientists, leading Industrialist and educationists have been students of this college. The institution is an important land mark in Meerut, situated in an open and peaceful atmosphere, covering an area of 100 acres of land. Meerut college has 184 full time highly qualified faculty members and approximately 456 research scholars of which more than 50 are getting fellowship from UGC / ICSSR / Rajiv Gandhi Fellowship etc. pursuing research work for the award of Ph.D. Some of the faculty members also have research collaboration.

Campus

Spread over an area of 50 acres, the Meerut College has good classroom facilities. The college also actively promotes sports and its teams play in various tournaments. The college imparts education at the graduate and post graduate levels and has facilities for research in the faculties of arts, science, commerce, education and law. It also has a very rich central library with approximately 1,62,576 books. The library subscribes 56 journals. Some of these books are very rare. It has a seating capacity for more than 200 students. The library opens from 9.00 AM to 5.00 PM for 350 days in a year. Twelve departments also have their separate departmental libraries for P.G. and research students. Facilities include residential accommodation in six hostels with a capacity of 760, two swimming pools, and playgrounds for field games (cricket, hockey, football and athletics), a central library, 11 departmental libraries, 30 labs, a cultural centre and two auditoriums.

Academics

The college is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council, Bangalore. It has also been awarded status of college with potential for excellence by University Grants Commission, New Delhi. Initially it was affiliated with Kolkata University, then with Allahabad and Agra universities respectively. However in 1964, after Meerut University was constituted, it was the first college to be affiliated to the new university which was rechristened Chaudhury Charan Singh University in 1964. General Information

Admission

The admission into undergrad programmes opens in July. There is an entrance test for the LLB programme. Fees: For undergrad courses Rs.900 per annum with reserved category students and women students given concessions. Postgrad programme fees rarely exceed Rs.1, 200 per annum with fee concessions available to reserved category students. Accommodation: The College has six hostels in which accommodation is provided on first come first serve basis. Annual charges are approximately Rs.3, 000
