Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHT-CET) answer key will be made available to candidates on June 27 for two days only, following allegations of unfair results.
Mr. Dilip Sardesai, Commissioner of CET Cell, along with Director of Higher Education Dr. Shailendra Deolankar and Director of Technical Education Vinod Mohitkar, assured the media that details would soon be uploaded on the CET Cell’s website: www.cetcell.mahacell.org.
The government’s response comes in the wake of Shiv Sena leader and MLA Aditya Thackeray’s allegations of an ‘unfair marking system’ in the MHT-CET, highlighting 54 erroneous questions from the exam. Thackeray has demanded that the answers given by students be made available for cross-checking.
It may be noted that MHT-CET is an entrance test held for admission to engineering, pharmacy, and agriculture education courses. A total of 7,25,052 candidates applied for the MHT-CET exam, including PCB (physics, chemistry, biology) and PCM (physics, chemistry, mathematics) groups, of which 6,27,377 appeared for the exam. It was conducted at 159 centers between April 22 and April 30 (PCB batch) and May 2 to May 16 (PCM batch).
Mr. Sardesai maintained, “The exam does not penalize for wrong answers with negative marks and declares results in percentile methods without any grace marks. Each session’s result is calculated independently.”
Dr. Deolankar pointed out that the MHT-CET exam pattern has been in practice for the past five to six years and has been endorsed by the court in the past.
Mr. Sardesai said, “As parents ourselves, we understand the importance of entrance tests in a student’s career. The CET is transparent, and the Cell is constantly resolving issues which have been sent to us in person or by email.”
