MOP Vaishnav College for Women was established in 1992 by the Sri Vallabhacharya Vidya Sabha in collaboration with the Dewan Bahadur M. O. Parthasarathy Iyengar Charities. Started with three courses B.Com, B.B.A., B.Sc. (Mathematics) the college currently offers 13 undergraduate and six postgraduate courses, and a research program in the Department of Commerce. The college has 3,030 students on its rolls. It is affiliated with Madras University. It was re-accredited in 2009 with an ‘A’ grade by the NAAC. M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women also has the distinction of being one of the youngest colleges in the country to have been granted autonomy by the UGC and Madras University.
Sited in Nungambakkam in theheart of the port city of Chennai on a modest 1.3 acre campus, the six-storey M.O.P Vaishnav College for Women offers state-of-the-art academic facilities. The main building, which is built around a verdant circular courtyard, and presided over by a Ganesha deity is well insulated from the bustle and noise of its commercial surroundings. Facilities include an air conditioned media lab with modern equipment, a high-tech networked computer lab (4,000 sq. ft) with 124 nodes, a multimedia lab, a micro processor and digital electronics lab, nutrition, chemistry, biochemistry, physiology and microbiology labs, a fully equipped press, amphitheatre, air conditioned 450-seater auditorium, and photography studio. The library comprises three floors with a collection of 23,500 books and more than 100 journals. The library is fully automated with computerized cataloguing, automated circulation and scanning, photocopying and internet facilities. All the classrooms are provided with a television so that students can watch subject-related TV programs.
