Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT), Allahabad was established as one of the seventeen regional engineering colleges of India in 1961 as a joint enterprise of Government of India and Government of Uttar Pradesh. MNNIIT is the third oldest university in India. The institute was initially affiliated with UP Technical University. With over 45 years of experience and achievements behind it in the field of technical education, on June 2002 MNNIT was upgraded to the status of a National Institute of Technology and a Deemed University fully funded by the Government of India. It was the first institute in the country to offer undergraduate programme in Computer Science & Engineering in 1976-77. The first Master’s programme of the institute was introduced by the Mechanical Engineering Department in 1966. Today MNNIT, Allahabad boasts nearly 900 students enrolled in its undergraduate programmes and more than 200 students enrolled in its postgraduate programmes. MNNIT was ranked No.12 in the Outlook India Top Engineering Colleges of 2012 survey. Owing to its excellent reputation and a dedicated placement cell, the institute boasts one of the best placements throughout the country, the highest package being about 20-25 lakhs per annum.
