The National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra (NIT Kurukshetra), earlier known as Regional Engineering College, Kurukshetra, was founded in 1963. It is a public engineering institution fully funded by the Government of India and one of the twenty NITs established and administered by the Government of India. NIT Kurukshetra was accredited with the status of Deemed University on June 26, 2002 and was later rechristened as National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra (NIT Kurukshetra). It started operating from its present location in Kurukshetra in 1965-66 with 120 students enrolled in its undergraduate programs. Over the years, its academic reputation and programmes offered grew manifold and it was eventually declared as an Institute of National Importance (INI) in December 2008. NIT Kuruskshetra offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Engineering, along with Doctor of Philosophy programs in Engineering, Sciences and Humanities. The institute also hosts impressive facilities for advanced research studies in Science and Technology.
NIT Kurukshetra offers undergraduate (UG) B.Tech and postgraduate (PG) M.Tech degrees in various engineering disciplines as well as in Physics. Ph.D. research programs are also offered in engineering, sciences, humanities and social sciences, and computer applications. From 2006, MBA programs are also offered by the institute. Technical societies like Microbus, Technobyte, Electroreck, Mechsoc, Infrastructure sets up events for electronics, computers, electrical, mechanical and civil branches respectively. The institute also promotes student clubs such as the music and dramatics club, photography club, fine arts and modeling, English literature and debate club, and Spic Macay among others.
