NISA demonstrates at CBSE HQ protesting against attack on teachers, principals

August 19, 2021

National Independent Schools Alliance (NISA) put up a demonstration at the CBSE headquarters on Wednesday protesting against the alleged brutal attack on the CBSE school teachers, principals and school owners by parents and politically aligned groups over marking scheme and tabulation policy in the CBSE board examination. They further said that school owners committed suicide due to post-result impact pressure.

NISA, which represents over 64,400 Budget schools from 23 states, and cater to the needs of 1.4 crore children at an average of 250 children per school has demanded the CBSE take complete responsibility for the tabulation policy and organize national level press conference to explain the same.

The organisation has been flagging the problems to CBSE and submitted many representations as well. “We didn’t get any response and finally we decided to meet the Chairman and submit our representation to him to consider the situation and take some initiative to control the unsafe environment against teachers, principals and school owners,” said Kulbhushan Sharma , President, NISA.

He further said, “The reality of the tabulation policy should reach the public to control the environment which is extremely against teachers and school leaders. We also demand CBSE should have two private school owners as a governing body member in all regional offices from all the state. At present, CBSE has private school members only from Delhi. Since it is a national board, it should have representatives from all over India to understand the concerns of private Schools.”

Parents are agitated at the tabulation policy and they want the marks of their wards to increase. But this is not possible. The CBSE has washed their hands off the matter and asked parents to contact their respective schools lest they face any issues. But the marking scheme was formulated by the Board. The schools are having to face unnecessary harassment from the parents’ community for no fault of them. The board has also asked students to sit for physical examinations if they are not happy with the marks. All these are added pressure for the student. Hence, we urge the CBSE to hold a conference and take responsibility for the mismanagement that is all around,” said Bharat Malik, founder member of NISA.

Dilip Modi, Campaign Convenor said that the schools were directed by the CBSE to moderately mark the students as per the formula they had put forward. “This lead deduction of marks without which the system was not accepting the upload. Schools had to adhere to this, despite not being comfortable with this process. All the state board students were marked generously. Many state board had also  given the maximum marks to many of the students. CBSE should clear their stance on the same and inform the parents and students about the tabulation process, added he.
