Overview

Sited at Derlakatte, Mangalore, Nitte University was founded under the aegis of Nitte Education Trust which boasts 31 institutions spread in 3 campuses at Nitte, Mangalore and Bangalore. The university was awarded the status of a Deemed University in June 2008. The AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences which was set up in 1985 was the first college under Nitte University. Today, NITTE is a well known name in the field of education with five colleges under its wing, the other four being KS Hegde Medical Academy, NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences and Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy. Under an able leadership team, the university offers courses and training in Engineering, Medicine, Health Sciences, Architecture, Management and Communication.

Campus

The Nitte University campus is sited away from the din and bustle of the city amidst verdant surroundings. The campus hosts three buildings, of which one is the Dental college, the other is the university building and the third is the hospital building. There is a Syndicate Bank branch within the campus with ATM facility. The canteen offers hygienic and tasty meals. The campus also hosts spacious parking lots for the staff and the students.

General Information

Admission

Eligibility criteria for BDS is a pass in the 12th standard or equivalent examination approved by the Nitte University with atleast 50 percent marks in aggregate of Physics, Chemistry and Biology, and English as one of the subjects of study.

Eligibility for BPT is a pass in the 12th std. or equivalent examination approved by the Nitte University securing not less than 40 percent marks in aggregate in the optional subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Biology, and English as one of the languages of study.

Candidates who have passed with less than 40 percent in PUC or equivalent examination but have completed a 2/3 year diploma course in Physiotherapy from a recognised State Board/University and have secured more than 50 percent marks are eligible to be admitted to I B.PT course.

Eligibility for B.Sc is a pass in 10+2 / Higher secondary / PUC of Karnataka Board or any equivalent exam approved by the Nitte University with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as principal subjects of study.

Eligibility criteria for MBBS is a pass in 12th standard or equivalent examination approved by the Medical Council of India with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects and English as one of the languages of study, with atleast 50 percent marks in aggregate of optional subjects.

The university has been recognised by NAAC as an “A” grade university.

Accommodation

The hostel is located close to the college and the hospital. There are separate hostels for boys and girls. The boarders are provided a cot, cupboard, study table and chair. Each hostel has a solar heated water facility, telephone, common room, reading room, library, visitors lounge, water coolers and generators. The boarders also have access to indoor and outdoor games within the campus.
