In response to the prevailing intense heatwave conditions in Odisha, the state government has taken proactive measures to ensure the well-being of school students. Effective April 25, summer vacation has been declared for all school students across the state. This decision encompasses schools of all types, including those operated by the government, government-aided institutions, and private establishments.
Acknowledging the severity of the situation, the government has also instituted morning classes from 6:30 am to 10:30 am for a period of three days, starting from April 22 and concluding on April 24. This temporary schedule adjustment aims to mitigate the impact of the heatwave on students while ensuring that educational activities can continue in a safe environment.
Earlier, in light of the extreme heat conditions, all schools were closed from April 18 to April 20 to safeguard students from the adverse effects of the scorching temperatures, which soared above 45 degrees Celsius in some regions.
As of Sunday afternoon, temperature readings across the state indicated the persistence of high temperatures, with Jharsuguda and Keonjhar towns recording the highest temperatures at 43.6 degrees Celsius. Several other areas, including Hirakud, Rourkela, Sambalpur, Bhubaneswar, Chandbali, and Balasore, also experienced temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius.
The proactive measures taken by the government reflect a commitment to prioritizing the health and well-being of students during challenging climatic conditions. By implementing these measures, the government aims to ensure that educational activities can continue effectively while safeguarding students from the adverse effects of the heatwave.
