April 9, 2020

Presidency School, Bangalore South + Bhuvaneswari“Technology has been radically transforming the global education landscape and India is undeniably catching up. At Presidency School, we have already been delivering quality online learning to senior classes amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and we plan to scale up our virtual learning solution for the primary and middle school too. These are challenging times for everyone but commitment to a common goal has inspired our staff and management to work in tandem for designing an effective and streamlined online learning programme.”

J. Bhuvaneswari, principal of the CBSE affiliated co-ed day Presidency School Bangalore South (PSBS) — part of the top ranked Presidency Group of Institutions based in Bangalore.

A Microsoft Showcase School, technology has consistently driven pedagogical innovations at Presidency School Bangalore South. With the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak and ongoing emergency lockdown threatening to bring learning to a standstill, the PSBS staff and management have been striving to design an innovative virtual learning programme by leveraging technology. During these disruptive times, the school has been ensuring continuity in the teaching-learning process in the following ways:

Orientation of school staff: Teachers, vice-principals and principals, heads of department, members of audit and curriculum teams were introduced to the nuances of online learning. Besides, 350 kindergarten-senior secondary teachers were provided hands-on training on using Microsoft learning platform and Microsoft  tools such as Sway, One Note, Whiteboard, Power Point, among others.

Demo sessions: Demo sessions on conducting virtual classes were conducted for teachers with special focus on language and mathematics learning.

Virtual classes on Microsoft Team: Following staff orientation and training, live virtual classes were started for students of class X and XII on the MS Team platform supported by other Microsoft tools. While the classes are conducted in the morning hours, students are given assignments to reinforce their understanding and keep them busy during the evening hours. The teachers are currently working on curating engaging online classes for students of KG-class VIII.

Co-curricular education: Yoga, music and dance sessions are also conducted regularly to help students relax and rejuvenate. Besides, quizzes and activities conducted during the virtual classes have been drawing out enthusiastic participation of students.

The online classes are helpful and much needed during these unfortunate times, the extent at which this technology can be used for educational purposes is amazing and I really believe that this will have a lasting impact on our scores and knowledge. Teachers of our school are among the top because of which the experience is amazing. The online classes are a brilliant and thoughtful idea. I love the sessions cause it doesn’t really feel like we are at our respective homes. In conclusion, these classes are a priority and a must because it will help us in the future and also create a path through which technology will be implemented in teaching.

With special reference to your humble gesture of organising online classes, I would like to mention that all the classes till now were of superior standard. The Hindi class organised by Shukla sir was really enchanting. With references to the age old epics and showing us videos, I have understood the deep meaning of the chapter we started today. The class was indeed good. I really liked it.

Thank you for conducting online classes; my son is really enjoying and learning from these interactive sessions.
I appreciate the step taken by you in this crucial time for uninterrupted learning of students. I would like to extend my gratitude towards hard working teachers, who are making themselves available and spending their precious time for these online interactive sessions. I also want to thank the entire team behind this great initiative. Appreciate the great idea of starting the class with prayer and yoga.

Its an indeed pleasure to wish you and your teachers  for their splendid effort for the online classes. My daughter Ria has been on her toes from the day one of the classes. She is taking the classes very seriously and is making good effort to understand the concepts and also does the  assignments without fail. In view of my this i really appreciate your team for making use of the  online facilities for conducting classes. A big KUDOS from both her parents to you Principal Madam and the teachers.
