Overview

Rukmini Devi Public School (RDPS), located at Pitampura in Delhi is a coeducational day school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi. The school was founded by K.C. Garg and his wife Anita Garg in 1986, and is managed by the Seth Pokhar Mal Educational Society that operates several institutes under the name “Rukmini Devi”. The school offers education from nursery through class XII.

The school aims at laying a strong foundation for young learners in the age group of 5 to 17 years which will facilitate them to become active participants in lifelong learning and earning by integrating both national and international dimensions in the curriculum supported by state-of-the-art infrastructure.

Campus

The school campus sprawls over 3.42 acres hosting a library stocked with nearly 30,000 books and measuring 8000 square feet with a seating capacity of 200 students, an air-conditioned auditorium with a capacity of 850 persons, an amphitheatre, a Science Park with 25 open-air science gadgets and several pits where primary school students can grow vegetables. In addition, there is a small fruit orchard and botanical garden. The school also houses facilities for fine arts such as dance (classical and folk), music (vocal and instrumental), painting/craft, sculpture or preparing electronic and electrical gadgets, photography, tailoring and embroidery, and interior decoration and dramatics; there is also a canteen, an infirmary with full time nurse and a medical officer and a counseling department with a full time child counselor.

The school offers well equipped and spacious labs for physics, chemistry and biology; there are also labs for social science, mathematics and language. The robotics lab has a computer, TV, infra red tower for data communication and robot building kits; there are two computer labs for senior and junior sections.

The school houses eight e-rooms equipped with networked computer, interactive board, and multimedia projector to display computer based information at the touch of the screen to support the teaching-learning process, junior and senior multimedia learning labs, e-assessment room to make real time assessment more interactive for learners and a centrally controlled server room to facilitate accessibility of technology resources through the school. The video conferencing room provides support for international dimension in the school curriculum, teaching-learning is extended beyond cultural boundaries via virtual interaction with schools abroad in video conferencing room fitted with 42” plasma TV, VC machine, a P-IV computer and an interactive board.

Facilities for games and sports include a play ground with 200 meter athletics track, two basketball courts with fiberglass boards, handball and Kho-Kho field and a volley ball court, swimming pool with automatic water treatment plant with changing rooms, separate for girls and boys, a spacious gymnasium and an indoor games hall with a badminton and table tennis table.

Academics

The school curriculum maps 12 essential skills under five domains to promote innovative curricular and co-curricular program. The program is aimed at providing holistic education and opportunities for individuals to develop physical, socio-emotional and intellectual areas of development.

The school lays emphasis on development of Attitudes (A), Communication Skills (C) and Thinking Skills (T). All scholastic and co-scholastic activities emphasize on the regular practice of ‘ACT’.

School activities such as morning assemblies, project accomplishments and presentation, cultural exchange programs and collaborative projects with schools abroad, social awareness and community welfare programs, sports activities and clubs are woven into the school curriculum to provide a plethora of opportunities for the holistic development of the students.

Another important feature at RDPS Pitampura is the school website which comprises various interactive features through which students can consult other students and teachers of the school and partner schools in international locations online, through Monitored Bulletin Board. The site also provides sections which facilitate students to learn about latest developments through ‘Update Ur Self’ section.

General Information

Admission

There are a total number of 152 seats at the pre-primary level, of which 38 are reserved for the EWS/Disadvantaged group, 30 are management seats and remaining 84 are reserved for general category candidates. The age criterion for admission to the pre-primary section is that the child should be between four and five years of age.

Admission process commences on January 1, and application forms can be collected between 09:00-13:00 hours. The last date for submission of application form is January 15.

Last date for displaying list of selected children including EWS & Disadvantaged Group category (including waiting list) is February 15 till 17:00 hrs. The last date for displaying the second list (if any) is February 29, 17:00 hours. Admission process ends on March 30.

The list of applicants for admission as per vacancies available will be determined by conducting draw of lots. The date of draw is displayed on the school notice board/website as per guidelines issued by the Directorate of Education.

Achievement

Rukmini Devi Public School (RDPS), Pitampura was bestowed with National Sanitation Award 2012 by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in collaboration with the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MoHRD), Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) and Deutsche Gesellschaftfür Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

The school has also been honored with National Human Resource Optimisation Award for its accomplishment and advancements in the field of Human Resource and ICT and the Green and Clean Campus Award for its endeavours towards promoting ethos of conservation and instilling the feeling of preservation and sustainability in the students and society at large.

The school was also bestowed with the "International School Award" by the British Council for outstanding development of the international dimension in the school curriculum and has been granted affiliation for CBSE-i curriculum by CBSE, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.

Since RDPS Pitampura is a day school, it does not offer accommodation facility.
