Overview

Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (SLIET), Sangrur,was established by the Ministry Of Human Resource and Development (MHRD), Government of India, in the year 1989 under the then MHRD Arjun Singh and was formally inaugurated on December 20, 1991. An autonomous, co-educational institution, fully funded by the Government of India and run by the SLIET society, the institute offers Certificates, Diplomas, undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate programmes through its 11 departments (Computer Science & Engineering, Chemical Technology, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering, Food Engineering & Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Management & Humanities, Disabilities Studies). All of its programmes are recognized and approved by the New Delhi-based All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology, Sangruris a deemed to be university under the University Grants Commission Act in 2006. The institute is committed to provide the best possible technical education in sync with the needs of the industry and offers skill-building programmes suitable for workers, technicians and engineers. Strategic research and development activities and entrepreneurship are promoted here to help the unemployed too.

Campus

Sited on a sprawling 451 acre plot provided by the Punjab Government, the SLIET campus offers all the amenities required for a self-sufficient township such as hospital, shopping complex, bank and ATM, among others. The SLIET hosts a health centre within the campus occupying an area of 400 square meters and a central library. The central library is well-equipped with a number of books on various academic disciplines, as well as books on literature, general awareness, management and moral sciences, etc. It subscribes to various national and international journals, as well as e-journals. Facilities like plasma TV, MMP, CTV, OHP, slide projector and audio-video cassettes are available in the library.
