The Sarojini Naidu School of Arts and Communication, University of Hyderabad started functioning from 1988 and offers Master’s level courses in Dance, Theater Arts, Painting and Communication and Doctoral (Ph.D) programmes in Communication, Theater Arts and Dance. It seeks to enlarge the scope of the academic programme so as to include other areas of artistic endeavor like music. The broad objective of the teaching programme is not only to explore the evolution and forms of arts, but also to bring about an integrated approach to the study of creativity. An inter-disciplinary approach is incorporated in the syllabi. Apart from the core faculty, experts in various fields and guest faculty of national and international repute are also associated with the institute.
The department hosts state-of-the-art professional grade audio-video equipments to train students. A networked computer lab, a multi-camera studio equipped with non-linear edit suites, DVD recorders, single camera production units, and an audio studio with digital audio recorders, production control room, audio editing suites and exclusive transmission room.

Admission to the MA programme is through an all-India written test and oral interview. Students who qualify in the written test will be called for an interview at their own expense to the school. The written test will comprise sections on current affairs, general knowledge, English language capabilities, precis writing and essays on both current affairs and general knowledge.
