The headmistress of a private school whose class 10 student had allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the top floor of his apartment block here has been arrested, police said.
The headmistress was arrested on Saturday for allegedly abetting the suicide by the student who had taken the extreme step, leaving behind a suicide note in which he had said, This school has killed me.
In his note, the student had accused his school headmistress of harassing him and other children of bullying him, police had said on Friday after the boy allegedly committed suicide.
“We have arrested the headmistress and she will be questioned as per the complaint,” the investigation officer probing the case said.
The official of BPTP police station here where an FIR had been registered in the suicide case said names of eight students too have so far come under the scanner.
Four of these students have already left the school, he said, adding the matter is being investigated further.
The FIR was lodged on the complaint of the boy’s mother who taught in the same school.
Earlier, the administration of the school had denied the allegations made by the 15-year-old boy in his suicide note that he was harassed by some students by saying that they conducted an investigation and nothing incriminating has been found.
The 15-year-old boy, a student of the school, allegedly jumped from the top floor of his residential building on Thursday evening leaving behind a suicide note in which he blamed the school for his action.
“She (mother of deceased) gave us a written document mentioning the names of students who used to trouble her son. We investigated the matter and have found nothing. The majority of students whose names were given by the mother are not there in School. We questioned two-three students, who were part of the school, and found nothing,” said Mamata Gupta, Senior Academic Coordinator, DPS Greater Faridabad.
The mother of the student who committed suicide works as a teacher in the same school.
Subey Singh, a spokesperson from Faridabad police station said, “The boy used to study at Delhi Public School (DPS) Faridabad in class 10, where his mother was a teacher too. Last year, two other students started harassing the deceased by making lewd remarks against him. He complained of it to the school authorities but allegedly no actions were taken.”
“The deceased was at home due to lockdown for some time but after the schools reopened, he started going to school. He was again being mentally tortured there. The boy asked for help from a teacher to understand a subject but she instead accused the boy and his mother of troubling her unnecessarily,” added Singh.
The deceased’s mother wrote a written complaint to the police where she has mentioned that due to mental stress at school, he went into depression and was undergoing treatment.
The police spokesperson further stated that when the boy jumped from the building his mother was out of the house and she got a call from her neighbours, informing her about the incident and that he was being taken to the hospital. The mother came to know after reaching the hospital that her son has died.
Station House Officer (SHO), Arjun said, “FIR has been registered and action is being taken as per mother’s complaint against school’s academic head.”
The police are thoroughly investigating all the points related to the incident following the legal process, the accused will be arrested as per the rules, added Arjun.
