Maharashtra: Schools likely to shut if Omicron cases continue to rise

Schools likely to reopen after August 15

June 8, 2020

HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ said schools and colleges are likely to reopen after August 15, 2020. Around 33 crore students have been waiting for the news related to reopening of schools to put their doubts and confusions to rest.

Earlier, there were reports suggesting that schools and colleges will reopen in July with 30 percent attendance for students of class 8 and above and younger kids continuing with online classes at home. But as the coronavirus pandemic situation hasn’t improved yet, the ministry came out with an official statement that no decision of such sort has been finalised. Schools and colleges have been closed since March 16 after the Prime Minister announced a countrywide lockdown to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

Pokhriyal, in an interview to BBC Hindi, revealed that schools and colleges will reopen only after August 2020, maybe after August 15, 2020.

Following safety guidelines of the UGC and NCERT is mandatory for schools and colleges to reopen in the Covid-19 circumstances to ensure safety of students and teachers. Teachers and students would reportedly need to wear masks and gloves and thermal scanners would be installed in schools. Also, only two students would be allowed to sit on three-seaters and the norms of social distancing will be monitored with CCTVs. The guidelines will also be printed and put up at different areas in schools.
