Seed Academy, Kottivakkam, Chennai is part of the SEED chain of schools started in 2004 by Jaya Shastri. The Kottivakkam branch was started in 2013 as a progressive primary school that aims to offer children a unique learning experience in an environment enriched with support, encouragement and assistance. The preschool celebrates the pursuit of lifelong learning and is committed to nurturing high self-esteem and respect for others.
The 7000 square feet school campus hosts well ventilated and spacious classrooms that are centre specific and comprises a dramatics area, class library, activity area, etc. The preschool also hosts a library and an indoor play area. The outdoor space includes a jungle gym, splash pool, sand pit and grass area.
The curriculum offered by the school is based on Swiss developmental psychologist and philosopher, Jean Piaget’s theory of Ages and Stages of Development that focuses on the idea that children learn best through active, hands-on exploration. The school believes that its well-rounded curriculum promotes learning and development in social, emotional, physical, language and cognitive spheres.
The curriculum integrates educational approaches such as the High Scope’s Early Childhood with practices followed ICSE and CBSE schools to ensure children are ready to face ICSE and CBSE curricula with well planned and structured lessons for each day. The curriculum aims to educate children about their safety while being appropriately challenging, also encourages them to explore, experiment and discover, promotes action and interaction among children and supports independence in them.
Registration begins in January and is completed by June. The school admits children of all age groups, starting at 18 months. The preschool has small class sizes of 12 to 15 children per class; seats are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

The school’s founder, Jaya Sastri was awarded the Rotary International’s Education Entrepreneurship award for excellence in education. She is also the Early Childhood Association’s territory head for Tamil Nadu.
