Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management (SJMSOM) is a constituent institute of IIT Bombay, which was founded in 1958. To promote interdisciplinary learning, IIT Bombay established the management school in 1995 with the objective of transforming professionals with technological background to "Renaissance Leaders" of tomorrow. In the year 2000, the school was renamed as Shailesh J Mehta School of Management, in honor of Dr. Shailesh J. Mehta, a distinguished alumnus of IIT Bombay and a generous contributor to the school. Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management aims to develop professionals who manage the business activities in a dynamic environment in which technology is a key determinant of organizational success and to play a vital role in those areas of industry, government and public activity where technology is a key strategic component. Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management was ranked No.11 among top B-schools in India in the Education World C-fore survey, 2013.

Campus

Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management is equipped with modern state-of-the-art facilities. The SJMSOM building is a modern structure with its classrooms, seminar halls, computer labs and Wi-Fi enabled lobbies. The building has air-conditioned classrooms and seminar rooms with a ‘U’ shaped design to facilitate discussions and debates. The specially designed classrooms are equipped with the audio visual aids and internet connectivity. The school has air-conditioned seminar halls and a 150 seat auditorium for conducting seminars, MDPs and conferences. Apart from these, the school has access to the three large auditoriums within the IIT Bombay campus. The convocation hall is used for a variety of purposes like cultural activities, convocation and weekend movies, to watch live cricket and football. P C Saxena Lecture Theatre is an air-conditioned hall that can seat 250 people. The KReSIT auditorium is a spacious auditorium which is part of the neighboring Kanwal Rekhi School of Information Technology (KReSIT) is also used. The library has more than 6638 books and 337 Audio Visual Material (CDs and Audio cassettes), 514 thesis & dissertations, and 55 MDP reports. In addition to the school library, the Institute Central Library also has over 5000 book titles in management, and subscribes to around 38 journals. In addition to print subscriptions, the institute subscribes to a number of full-text electronic journals, through leading sources such as Elsevier Science Direct, Emerald and ProQuests ABI / INFORM, EBSCO, Euro monitor. Besides books and journals, the B-school faculty and students have access to a number of data and information sources that are very useful in teaching and research. These include the Prowess, Business Beacon database from the Center for Monitoring the Indian Economy (CMIE), which is considered the standard for the Indian macroeconomic and industry data, and Capital Line, which provides detailed market and financial information and also the CII Directory which provides lists of companies. The institute also subscribes to the Cenca and Capital Stock and Prime database. SJMSOM hosts two computer labs meant for the management program students and a PhD workspace for research scholars.

Admission

Eligibility The candidates securing a minimum aggregate of 60 percent [CGPI = 6.5/10] through all the semesters of their Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or equivalent) or master’s degree in Science (and first class Bachelor degree) are eligible for admission to the MMP. There is a relaxation of 5 percent in marks or equivalent in CGPI for SC/ST candidates. Those appearing for the final degree examination can also apply. The admission in such cases will be subject to their fulfilling the minimum eligibility criteria. Admission Procedure Candidates are required to appear for the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by IIMs every year. The candidates will also be invited to appear for Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview based on their performance in CAT. Candidates holding a foreign passport, or Indian passport but studying/working abroad continuously for at least the last two years, and having a valid GMAT score, are included in this category. The candidates holding a foreign passport should qualify in TOEFL or IELTS. The applicants are required to send their completed offline application available at http://www.som.iitb.ac.in. Candidates need to appear for the interview at SOM, IIT Bombay, if they happen to be in Mumbai at the time of the interview. Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management was ranked No.11 among top B-schools in India in the Education World C-fore survey, 2013. It has signed MoUs with international institutes and universities like the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University, USA, Dongguk Business School, Seoul, South Korea, The School of Business Administration of University of Connecticut, Hoseo University, South Korea and the BaaN Institute.
