In response to the ongoing inclement weather conditions and the recent flash floods in the Teesta river basin, the Education Department of Sikkim has issued a revised circular.
According to this circular, all government and private schools, colleges, and universities in the state will remain closed until October 15. This decision comes shortly after Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang’s directive to close these educational institutions until further notice due to the unprecedented disaster caused by the flash floods.
As of now, 14 bodies have been recovered, and 102 individuals, including 22 army personnel, remain missing following a cloudburst over Lhonak Lake in North Sikkim, which triggered a flash flood in the Teesta river basin on Wednesday.
