Sophia Shree Basant Kumar Somani (SBKS) Polytechnic was founded in 1970 by the Society of the Sacred Heart, an international congregation of religious sisters dedicated to the education of women. One of the distinguishing features of the Sophia Polytechnic is its emphasis not only on academic and professional excellence but also on the all-round development of its students. The mission of the Polytechnic is to empower women by providing them with a dynamic and caring environment for acquiring professional skills, through an education that is holistic, student-centered, value-based and creative in the pursuit of excellence. The Social Communications Media course at the Sophia Polytechnic, popularly known as SCM, is one of the first post-graduate mass communication courses to be offered in India. SCM Sophia graduates are placed in well reputed Advertising and Corporation Communication organizations, NGOs, and Media Research organizations.
Sophia SBKS Polytechnic hosts a newly renovated video studio, equipped with and LCD projector for screening film classics in the film appreciation classes. The air-conditioned library featuresover a thousand books on various facets of the media including a collection of hard-to-find photography books. Other facilities include a fully air-conditioned computer laboratory with internet connection, conference room, 100 seater audio-visual room and 850 seater Sophia Bhabha Auditorium. The institute also provides hostel facility for students.

Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university with a minimum of 50 percent aggregate marks in the qualifying examination. Written entrance test, group discussion and a personal interview are held in June. No prior preparation is required for the written test. Students will be tested on their knowledge of current happenings in the world of advertising, films, journalism, radio and television. Application forms can be downloaded from the SCM Sophia website.
