SPARC 2025, a city-wide school science competition focused on sustainability and innovation, concluded on a high note. Organized by Tan90 and co-hosted by Khoj, the event brought together students from 85 schools, resulting in 750 project entries, 200 shortlisted teams, and 26 finalists.
Targeted at students from grades 6 to 10, SPARC 2025 encouraged participants to create practical solutions aligned with the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

- Darshil L Reddy (S.E.A. International School) – 1st Prize
- Project: Cloud Rain
- A model demonstrating atmospheric water harvesting through condensation.
- Aditri Gupta (Surana Vidyalaya) – 2nd Prize
- Project: Affordable and Portable Device for Detection of Micro and Nano Plastic Particles
- A low-cost device designed to detect plastic particles in water.
- Qurath Ul Ain & A Huda (Ilma International School) – 3rd Prize
- Project: Plucker
- A simple tool for harvesting fruits from tall trees safely and efficiently.
The winners received cash prizes, and the top school won a STEM lab worth ₹3,00,000. Finalists were also given the opportunity to visit top deep-tech startups in Bengaluru.
The event was graced by Dr. V. Veerappan, Chairperson of the Indian Electronics & Semiconductor Association (IESA) and Co-founder of Tessolve, who served as the Chief Guest. Ms. Kumari Shibulal, Founder and Chairperson, Shibulal Family Philanthropic Initiatives, delivered the keynote address.
Medha Krishnan, CEO of Tan90, emphasized, “SPARC 2025 is about empowering young minds to think critically and creatively. We aim to take this initiative nationwide to provide students across India with similar opportunities.”
Ananya Ganapathy, Founder of Khoj, added, “The enthusiasm from students proves how impactful experiential learning can be. We want to create more year-round opportunities to nurture curiosity and innovation.”
The competition demonstrated how collaborative efforts can unlock young students’ potential to tackle sustainability challenges. By combining Tan90’s expertise in STEM education and Khoj’s focus on low-resource schools, SPARC 2025 showcased the transformative power of education in building a sustainable future.
