The Congress party on Friday launched a campaign in favour of university students and demanded that the final year exams be cancelled. The campaign #SpeakUpForStudents, launched by Rahul Gandhi posted a video on his Twitter handle stating that the University Grants Commission exams be cancelled in light of the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak.
He further stated that attending the exams will further pose a risk of the virus spread and asked that the result be declared on the basis of the previous semester. The campaign also demanded a fee waiver of six months for both schools and colleges.

It is extremely unfair to conduct exams during the Covid19 pandemic.
UGC must hear the voice of the students and academics. Exams should be cancelled and students promoted on basis of past performance.#SpeakUpForStudents pic.twitter.com/1TYY3q58i0

Earlier, the National Students’ Union of India, or NSUI, the student wing of the Indian National Congress stated, “NSUI has been running a national campaign to scrap exams for the past two months…NSUI has done meetings with more than 100 Universities. submitted memorandums to VCs of almost 150 universities across the country, sent messages in these university WhatsApp groups, done district-wise protests and press conferences, and filed writ petitions in many states.”
It further added, “69 universities (of the ones we are tracking) have agreed to promote students; many state governments have also followed suit including Maharashtra, Odisha, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Rajasthan.”
