Students from 800 affiliated colleges of the University of Mumbai are facing undue stress due to errors in the degree certificates distributed at the convocation ceremony held in March 2025.
Without their certificates they will not be able to apply for jobs or further their education.
Over a lakh of students are conferred with degrees each year.Last year, around 1.5 lakh students were awarded degrees.
It is not clear how many University staff are in charge of preparing, verifying and getting the degrees ready to be issued.
“However, no instructions seem to have been issued regarding replacement of the certificates though two months have gone by” lamented a student.
Aggrieved by the problem, the Bharatiya Jan Kalyankari Sanghatana ( BJKS) has appealed to the Vice Chancellor, the Registrar and the Controller of Examinations to look into the matter and take requisite action.
The student organisation foresees complications in the future due to these errors. Mumbai University had formed an inquiry committee to investigate the. Andhra Pradesh based contractor, Hitech Print System Ltd. but no findings have been shared.
The Sanghatana has called on the University to replace the certificates at the earliest. It has also requested the Vice Chancellor and Registrar to disseminate the inquiry report and announce appropriate measures.
