Overview

Sydenham Institute of Management Studies, Research and Entrepreneurship Education (SIMSREE), Mumbai ranks among the top management institutes in the country, offering post graduate programs in Management education under the University of Mumbai. Named after the then governor of Bombay, Lord Sydenham of Combe in 1913, the college is operated by the Government of Maharashtra. SIMSREE’s parent institute, Sydenham College is one of the most renowned Commerce colleges in India established in October 1913. According to an institute spokesperson, “SIMREE provides business knowledge with flexibility and embarks a journey towards a progressive career, fosters a spirit of co-operation, innovation and vision, and helps develop discerning eyesight to appreciate and respect the unity in diversity and harmonizes the inherent differences, while demolishing the artificial dividers. It is the only Government Management Institute in Maharashtra State offering education with minimum fees and high academic standard.” Placement process at Sydenham is well- structured, and student driven, guided by the Placement Committee. Big names visit the institute campus for recruitment and training, including ACNielsen, A.F.Ferguson and Co, ABN Amro Bank, Accenture, and Alchemist Ark among others.

Campus

Sydenham Institute of Management and Research is sited at the busy locality of Churchgate, Mumbai. Its campus is well-equipped with modern facilities such as libraries, computer labs, and Wi-Fi among others.

Academics

Affiliated with the University of Mumbai, SIMSREE offers the Masters of Management Studies (MMS)course, a two year full -time post graduate degree programme since 1983. This course is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. The program is conducted under the directions of the University of Mumbai with specializations offered in the areas of Finance, Marketing, Operations, Systems and HR. The course has 120 seats. The institute also offers a two year full -time Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDBM) course approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. There are 60 seats offered in this program and it is the only fully autonomous management program offered by the Government of Maharashtra and run exclusively by and at SIMSREE. Three-year part time Master’s Degree is offered by SIMSREE in the areas of Financial Management (MFM) and Marketing Management (MMM), both of which have 30 seats each. SIMSREE offers three academic clubs, a Finance Club, a Marketing Club & SIMCON Consulting Club , wherein students participate and organize workshops and interactive sessions. The SIMSREE Marketing Forum is called ‘BUZZ’. In all, there are 11 committees and clubs managed by the SMA, i.e. Sydnhem Management Association.

General Information

Admission

Admission to the institute requires students to appear for CMAT conducted by the AICTE. A valid CMAT score is followed by a group discussion and personal interview. Fees: Annual fee at SIMSREE amount to Rs 69,000.

Achievement

The institute ranks A** CRISIL at National Level, A*** at Maharashtra Level, for both PG and MMS. The Indian Post Office issued a commemorative stamp on the institute’s seventy-fifth anniversary in 1988. It was also the recipient of the ‘Best B-School for innovation in leadership’ at B School Affaire and Dewang Mehta Awards.

Accommodation

SIMSREE provides hostel facilities to male and female candidates from outside Mumbai.
