Established in 1921, The Law School under the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is one of the premier law schools in the country. It is duly approved by the Bar Council of India (BCI), Government of India, New Delhi. The BHU Law School was the first in the country to introduce the class method and the problem method in teaching methodology at both LL.B. and LL.M. levels. It was the first law school in the country to prepare case materials for the LLB students. The institution is easily accessible by means of public transport available in the holy city of Varanasi. The Banaras Hindu University is one of the most prestigious universities in the country and the largest residential university in Asia.
The BHU Law School is sited at a prominent place on the first semicircle around central registry and is housed in a beautiful building constituting the complex. It comprises five distinct wings - the academic wing, well furnished chambers of faculty members and faculty lounge lined by offices of the faculty administration with the lecture theater, classrooms and seminar rooms on the ground floor and library, moot court, classrooms on the first floor. The library features a rich collection of books and journals. It houses more than eighty thousand books including more than 135 national and international research journals. The courses offered by the institute are: Bachelor of Law (LLB): The law school offers three years Bachelor's Degree in Law (LLB) programme with specializations in Intellectual Property Rights, Criminology, Labour Laws, Animal Laws, Taxation, and Environmental Law. The course duration is 5 years. Master of Law (LLM): The law school offers two years Master's Degree in Law (LLM) course. It's a two year full time programme. Master of Law: The law school offers two years Master's Degree in Law (Human Rights and Duties Education) programme.
Bachelor of Law (LLB): The candidates must have completed graduation with minimum 50 percent aggregate marks from any recognized university. The admission is through All India Entrance Examination conducted by the university usually in the month of May. Master of Law (LLM): For pursuing LLM, the candidate must qualify the All India Entrance Examination conducted by the university generally in the month of May.
