The Punjab Public School is one of the premier public schools of the country. It was founded in 1960 and formally inaugurated by the first President of India Dr Rajendra Prasad on April 11, 1961. Since its inception, the focus has been on constant upgradation of the staff in all areas, be it teaching, sports or pastoral care. It is affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), New Delhi. There is a separate academic block dedicated to the Cambridge students from Class-VI to AS & A Level. Today it is an NEP 2020 Integrated Premier Boarding Co-educational School in sync with the times. At present, the school is headed by Dr DC Sharma, M.Sc., M.Phil., Ph.D., SRF, B.Ed., PGDSC. Since taking over on July 1 last year, he has focused on enhancing the overall competence of the teaching staff.
The school currently caters for 750 students of CISCE and CAIE. To ensure the school has an all-round sustainable growth, teachers’ training is a regular feature of the school. Toeing this line, as many as 9 teachers underwent training for AS & A Level in Accounting, Mathematics, English Language, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, Business, Physics and Geography and 5 teachers had training for IGCSE in Business Study, Art & Design, English Language, Geography and Physics. Teachers’ Training is important for the robust development of society on set parameters. It is an exercise in delegating academic maturity at varied levels. No society can rise in the absence of knowledge. PPS has been a school of standing for the last six decades. It is because teachers have consistently performed to their optimum. It is a practice in the school to share what any teacher learns in any training with his or her colleagues.
The capacity building has been taken up in a big way in the current session as per the provisions of the NEP 2020. The process is underway to build capacities at various levels, viz. Teachers, School Leaders, Teacher Educators, Technology Leaders, Students, R&D Leaders, Infrastructure and Resource Leaders Collaborators and Partners in Capacity Building. The efforts aim at creating a competent, well-equipped, and dynamic education ecosystem that can adapt to changing needs and effectively contribute to the nation’s development.
Dr DC Sharma, Headmaster
Headmaster Dr DC Sharma himself has been a dynamic pedagogical leader. He has been the Resource Person for Principals on Pedagogical Leadership, District Training Coordinator (DTC) of District Indore and Master Trainer Teachers’ Training, Centre of Excellence, Bhopal (AEP, CRM, Life Skills, GS). He has been deeply involved in Boarding School Management over the years. He was Trainer and Resource Person for National Education Policy 2020 for Principals as well as Master Trainer Adolescence Education Programme, CRM, Gender Sensitivity and Life Skills. He has consistently taken many sessions on Curriculum and Lesson Planning and other aspects of teaching-learning process at PPS. This also forms part of teachers’ training in various ways. He has spoken a lot about accountability, leadership, and effective pastoral care. He has raised the bar for coaches by setting some realistic goals. These initiatives on his part are geared towards deepening the core competencies of the staff at all levels.
Running a boarding school is a challenge. PPS has taken every challenge in its stride. This is why PPS has given many headmasters to various schools in the country over the years.
