Tripura University’s former VC Arunoday Saha receives Padma Shri for literature, education

Arunoday Saha, the former vice-chancellor of Tripura University, has been awarded the Padma Shri for his significant contributions to literature and education. Despite his academic background in economics, Saha emphasized that literature has always been his true passion.

“I am deeply honored to find my name on this year’s Padma Shri list. Although I hold a PhD in Economics from a US university, literature has always been close to my heart. It’s wonderful to see my literary works recognized at this level,” Saha shared with the media.

Saha’s recognition is a testament to his multifaceted career as an educator and writer. Over the years, he has authored 10 books that have enriched the cultural and educational landscape. His scholarly journey began as a school teacher, eventually leading him to become the vice-chancellor of Tripura University, where he left a lasting impact on the academic community.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha congratulated Arunoday Saha on social media, stating, “Heartfelt congratulations to Prof Arunoday Saha on being conferred the prestigious Padma Shri in Literature & Education. His remarkable contributions have inspired countless individuals, and this recognition is well-deserved.”

Ratan Lal Nath, the state’s Parliamentary Affairs Minister, also celebrated the achievement, saying, “Congratulations to Prof Saha for being chosen for the prestigious Padma Shri. I am grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for honoring Tripura with this recognition.”

Born in 1948 in Bishalgarh, Tripura, Saha’s journey reflects a profound commitment to both education and literature. In 2023, he was awarded the Tripura Vibhushan Award for his outstanding contributions to education. His work has had a lasting influence on the academic and literary communities, and this Padma Shri award marks another milestone in his distinguished career.
